  • In Memoriam of Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver In Memoriam of Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver

We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver. Her passing leaves a significant void in our state's political landscape and in the hearts of many whose lives she touched through her dedicated public service.

Lieutenant Governor Oliver's impact on New Jersey was immeasurable. As the first Black female Assembly speaker and only the second Black woman in U.S. history to lead a state legislature, she was a trailblazer, symbolizing progress and empowerment for all. Her commitment to diversity, inclusion, and civic engagement has left a lasting mark on our state.

During this difficult time, let us come together as a community to extend our sincerest condolences to Lieutenant Governor Oliver's family, loved ones, and colleagues in the State of New Jersey. May we honor her memory following her example of service and compassion by working towards a more inclusive and caring society.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by her profound loss.

    In solidarity,

    Executive Board of NJSSNA

Changing Lives One Diaper at a Time at NJ

New Jersey State School Nurses are devoted to promoting the health of students, families, and the community. Diapers are essential to meeting a child's basic needs and cost about $1,000 per year per child. 5.2 million babies and toddlers live in poor or low-income families, limiting their access to diapers and wipes. Diaper need is a lack of sufficient diapers to keep a child clean and healthy. A lack of diapers can lead to a number of consequences including skin breakdown, illness and infections, and loss of school and work time. Please help us to address diaper need and support NJ families by donating to the Central Jersey Diaper Bank (link below) and/or by bringing diapers/wipes to the NJSSNA Spring Conference on Saturday, 3/25/23. Thank you for your support!

The Central Jersey Diaper Bank also provided us with a text-to-donate code that we can use. By texting Nurses4Diapers to 44321, participants will receive a link to donate.
