I am a New Jersey Certified School Nurse
I graduated from Georgetown University School of Nursing and immediately began working as a staff nurse at Sibley Memorial Hospital (SMH) in Washington DC. I worked there for over 15 years. During this time I also worked for Staff Builders where I gained a wealth of experience teaching Nursing Assistant programs, Home Health Care and Occupational Health Nursing at Office of Personnel Management. In 1993 I left my position as Charge Nurse of the Surgical ICU at SMH to relocate to NJ and began my specialization in School Nursing. I received my School Nurse Certification and Master of Science in Health Education from New Jersey City University (NJCU). I completed course work at Kean University to hold a Certificate of Supervision in Education.
I served as Secretary for Essex County School Nurses Association for over 11 years and President for two terms and then joined the Executive Board of NJSSNA. On the NJSSNA Executive Board I have served as Marketing Chair, Membership Chair and President.
I was a presenter at New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), and several other venues on various topics including abstinence workshops for students. I was Assistant Coordinator of a mentoring program, Camp Nurse for 17 years and a Home Instructor for Essex County Regional Educational Services Commission teaching biology health and child development. I served as a Union Representative for East Orange Education Association since 2006. During the 2010 NJEA Teachers Convention, I was bestowed the high honor of “Distinguished School Nurse Alumni “ by NJCU and on May 25, 2011 was inducted into NJCU School Nurse Honor Society. 2015-16 Governor’s Educational Services Professional of the year for the East Orange Stem Academy High School.
I am a member of NASN, ECSNA, NEA, NJEA and Essex County Democratic Women. And have the honor of being called a Johnson and Johnson School Health Leadership Fellow.
